50 Jahre deutsch-israelische diplomatische Beziehungen: Wie weit trägt das Wunder der Annäherung?
Am 12. Mai 2015 jährt sich zum 50. Mal der Tag, an dem die Bundesrepublik Deutschland und Israel diplomatische Beziehungen aufgenommen haben. Auch wenn es sich vor dem Hintergrund des Genozids an den europäischen Juden niemals um normale Beziehungen handeln wird: Im Jubiläumsjahr vergewissern sich hochrangige Vertreterinnen und Vertreter Deutschlands und Israels des an ein Wunder grenzenden Vertrauensverhältnisses und des engen Geflechts an Kontakten, das zwischen beiden Ländern entstanden ist. Mit keinem anderen Land im Nahen und Mittleren Osten ist Deutschland so eng verbunden. Dennoch: Die Annäherung ist im Wesentlichen ein Projekt der Eliten geblieben; die beiden Gesellschaften entwickeln sich derzeit weiter auseinander statt sich anzunähern. Und das Verhältnis ist vor allem aufgrund der Differenzen über eine Zweistaatenregelung des israelisch-palästinensischen Konflikts ernsthaft getrübt. Das Jubiläum sollte daher für die deutsche Politik und Gesellschaft Anlass sein, darüber zu reflektieren, was historische Verantwortung bedeutet und was sie für Deutschlands Politik gegenüber Israel impliziert.
