A Novel Post-Treatment on Fe-Based Amorphous Coatings to Improve Corrosion Resistance and its Protection Mechanism
The shallow penetration depth of the sealant was often the main reason affecting its long-term protection. For the purpose of improving the penetration depth of the sealant and prolong its durability, an ultrasonic-assisted pre-sealing, annealing plus post-impregnating integration sealing method suitable for Fe-based amorphous coatings was proposed in this paper. The Fe48Mo14Cr15Y2C15B2(at.%) amorphous coating was prepared by atmospheric plasma spraying. The long-term corrosion resistance of the sealed coatings was characterized by an immersion test in 3.5wt.% NaCl solution. And the microstructure of the sealed coating was investigated by scanning electron microscope (SEM), energy dispersive spectrometer (EDS), digital microscope, X-ray diffraction (XRD). The corrosion behavior of the sealed coating was evaluated by conducting the potentiodynamic polarization test before and after the immersion. And the electrochemical behavior of the sealed coatings was analyzed by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). The results showed that the ultrasonic-assisted sealant had a deeper penetration depth than impregnation sealing methods. In addition, the ultrasonic-assisted pre-sealing, annealing plus post-impregnating integration sealing coating (UASC) had a more excellent performance in long-term protection than the conventional impregnation sealing coating (ISC). During the entire immersion period, the corrosion mechanism of the two coatings was divided into two stages respectively. The above sealing method delayed the transformation of the corrosion mechanism and maintained the excellent corrosion resistance of the sealed coatings, indicating that the scheme proposed in this article has practical implementation significance
