Appraisal of Technological Capability of Selected Palm Oil Mills for Production of Special Palm Oil in Nigeria

This study assessed the production capabilities of some modern palm oil mills in selected States of Nigeria for production of special palm oil, by collecting information from their staff on the operation of the mills. Government-owned mills (Okitipupa and Nigerian Institute for Oil Palm Research with capacities of 24 and 6 tons/hr, respectively) were observed to be dilapidated and not functioning due to lack of proper maintenance. Privately-owned mills (Okomu, JB and Royal Farm with capacities of 45, 8 and 3 tons/hr, respectively) were however functional. Private standard mills at all levels of operation are therefore recommended
