Brecha salarial entre hombres y mujeres y ciclo económico en Colombia
Este estudio se centra en la relación entre el ciclo económico y la brecha salarial por sexo en Colombia. Se encuentra que la brecha salarial por hora es procíclica para los hombres y mujeres entre 25 y 55 años que trabajan. Se emplea un pseudopanel con datos anuales de las Encuestas de Hogares de 1984 a 2006, para las 7 principales ciudades colombianas, con el fin de determinar los mecanismos que explican la prociclicidad de esta brecha salarial. Se proponen tres hipótesis en la explicación de la prociclicidad de la brecha: i) el efecto del trabajador adicional, ii) los cambios de composición entre formales e informales por sexo y iii) los cambios de composición en los sectores productivos por sexo. Se estiman dos regresiones: la primera busca estimar la brecha salarial en función de variables de control y del ciclo económico; la segunda busca descomponer el efecto del ciclo económico en las tres hipótesis mencionadas, tomando los valores predichos de la brecha salarial que se obtienen de la primera regresión. Luego de realizar diferentes estimaciones, se encuentra evidencia a favor de la primera hipótesis.
