Business Research in the Nordic Countries : An Analysis of Research Output Across Countries, Disciplines, and Institutions

This paper examines the state of business research in the Nordic countries over the period 2005-2015. Using publication data from the leading peer-reviewed business and economics journals, we analyze Nordic research output across countries, disciplines, and academic institutions. Our results indicate that the Nordic countries have been very productive in business research. Despite the small number of contributing institutions, the Nordic universities account for approximately 5 percent of the total research output published in the leading journals. We also document a distinct upward trend in the share of Nordic output over the sample period. The most prolific country is Sweden, followed by Denmark, Norway, and Finland. The top-ranked Nordic institutions in terms of research output are Copenhagen Business School, Aalto University, and Stockholm School of Economics, although substantial discipline-specific differences are also observed
