China und die Raketenabwehr: Instrument zur Einhegung oder Einbindung?
Als einziger der fünf Atomwaffenstaaten entsprechend der Definition des Nichtverbreitungsvertrags verbessert China seine nuklearen Streitkräfte nicht nur, sondern baut sie auch zahlenmäßig aus. So werden bald ballistische Raketen auf Unterseebooten stationiert. Außerdem bestückt China mobile Interkontinentalraketen mit Mehrfachgefechtsköpfen. Dies ist eine Reaktion auf amerikanische Fähigkeiten zur Raketenabwehr, die zwar vorrangig gegen Nordkorea gerichtet sind, aber auch Chinas Raketenpotential beeinträchtigen. Schon die umfangreiche konventionelle Modernisierung und Aufrüstung chinesischer Streitkräfte hat Spannungen im asiatisch-pazifischen Raum hervorgerufen. Ihnen wird nun eine weitere, nukleare Dimension hinzugefügt. Daher wird es Zeit, China in die strategische Rüstungskontrolle einzubinden
