COMPATIBILITIES BETWEEN URBAN AGGLOMERATION AND DEGROWTH ECONOMY

Economic growth is the process that haschanged the style and quality of life, hasmoved human activities from rural to urbanand has favored the dynamics of urbanagglomeration. In recent years, theconsequences of these trends of progress andurbanization have begun to be negatively felt,by warming the planet, extreme phenomena,affecting the health of people, in large part, bya general negative effect of the ecosystem.The world is going through a period whenprecisely the growth factors are transposinginto harmful factors that need impetuoussafeguard measures. We reiterate the ideas ofGeorgescu-Roegen's entropy theory and bringto our attention the need for a new form ofeconomic growth, that of the degrowth.Without having a negative connotation,degrowth supports increasing well-being byimproving the ecosystem quality. In thiscontext, the urban agglomerations appear intotal contradiction with the principles of thedegrowth economy and society. The analysisshows that the tendency of urbanagglomeration can only be calibrated to thedegrowth economy only when the level ofpeople's consciousness rises to a higher leveland through volunteers action doubled byeffective economic policy measures.Key words. degrowth economy, degrowthsociety, economic growth, urban agglomeration,ecosystem
