Developing diverse senior managers
Purpose – Reviews the latest management developments across the globe and pinpoints practical implications from cutting‐edge research and case studies. Design/methodology/approach – This briefing is prepared by an independent writer who adds their own impartial comments and places the articles in context. Findings – If you were asked to describe a stereotypical American CEO, what words would you use? Dynamic? Charismatic? Decisive? Innovative? Inspiring? All of these characteristics would probably spring to mind, but it is even more likely that before you even started coming up with such adjectives that you pictured a middle‐aged white male. And whilst you might be right in doing so (just 5 percent of top executive positions are occupied by women in the US), this lack of diversity in the upper echelons of corporate America could potentially have a damaging effect on business in the future. Practical implications – Provides strategic insights and practical thinking that have influenced some of the world's leading organizations. Originality/value – The briefing saves busy executives and researchers hours of reading time by selecting only the very best, most pertinent information and presenting it in a condensed and easy‐to‐digest format.
