Emerging relations between South Korea and the Soviet Union

On 30th September 1990, South Korea and the USSR established formal diplomatic relations. The author looks at the background of the process leading to the establishment of South Korean-Soviet diplomatic relations, launching of the Gorbachev system, South Korea's "Northern Policy", deterioration of North Korean-Soviet relations in the aftermath of the improvement in South Korean-Soviet relations and the impact of the establishment of South Korean-Soviet relations on North Korean-South Korean relations and on Northeast Asia in general.
