How Does Business Performance Measures Perform : An Emprical Analysis

The article reports the findings of survey of CFO's on use and satisfaction about performance of prevailing performance measurement systems, framework and models in select companies in India. With increased use of performance measures and the amount of resource incurred in terms money and management time and efforts, it all the more important to know weather performance measurement adequately serves the purpose for which they are deployed. The research is motivated to address the unavailability of study on capturing what and how well performance measures serves various purposes or uses with reference to companies in India. Data was collected from a survey administered to CFO's of 38 different leading Indian companies. 23 different functions, identified from literature were introduced to the respondent. Subsequently analysis of the extent of satisfaction in fulfilling those functions spread over four different categories using descriptive statistics and Random Block Design (ANOVA) was performed. We observed that performance measurement is satisfying tactical but not equally well strategic, top management and behavioral needs.
