Innovasjon og lønnsomhet i store foretak
I denne rapporten presenteres resultatene fra en prosjektmodul om innovasjonsaktivitet i store norske foretak. Store foretak skiller seg ut slik at statistisk analyse blir vanskelig, men er samtidig av vesentlig betydning i nasjonaløkonomien i kraft av sin størrelse. Analysene her er basert på casestudier hvor intervjuer og skriftlig informasjon som årsmeldinger danner datagrunnlaget. Arbeidet er gjennomført som et supplement til mer statistisk baserte analyser, og har vist at det er mye å hente fra denne typen studier. Samtidig er det et svært komplisert og krevende arbeid å gripe essensen i store og tunge prosesser i store organisasjoner. Vi ser derfor mere på dette som starten av en forskningsprosess enn endelige svar på de forskningsspørsmål som er reist. Finn Ørstavik, Markus Bugge, Morten Fraas og Svein Olav Nås (prosjektleder), alle ved STEP, har gjennomført arbeidet med denne modulen. Foruten foreliggende rapport er et omfattende underlagsmateriale samlet i et eget arbeidsnotat, ”Case studier av innovasjonsadferd i store selskaper. Bakgrunnsnotat” av Markus Bugge og Morten Fraas. Dette arbeidsnotatet distribueres ikke fordi deler av innholdet kan vurderes som sensitiv informasjon av de involverte foretakene. Notatet kan imidlertid gjøres tilgjengelig for forskere på spesielle vilkår. De analyser og vurderinger som gjøres her er basert på de informasjoner som er innhentet om selskapene. De er imidlertid blitt tolket og bearbeidet underveis, og analysen står således helt og holdent for forfatternes regning uten at informantene eller oppdragsgiver kan gjøres ansvarlig for innholdet. Rapporten utgjør en av flere moduler i et forskningsprosjekt med tittel Lønnsomhet og vekst som følge av FoU og innovasjon. Andre moduler i prosjektet omfatter statistisk analyse av paneldata basert på innovasjonsundersøkelsen og tilhørende regnskapstall, økonometrisk modellering av sammenhengen mellom innovativ input, innovativ output og produktivitet i Nordiske land, en studie av utviklingen i identifiserte innovative foretak, samt en studie av utviklingen i foretak som av ulike grunner har falt fra paneldataene. Prosjektet har vært finansiert av Norges forskningsråd under programmet Næring, finans og marked. Vi er takknemlige for denne støtten som har muliggjort arbeid med viktige spørsmål som vi både finner interessante og relevante for så vel analytisk tilnærming som politikkutforming innen forsknings- og innovasjonspolitikk.
