Is the second transition in the hierarchical spin ordering of a heterogeneous magnet CoCl2-GIC of a percolation type?
CoCl2-GIC (graphite intercalation compound) is a heterogeneous magnet, which forms a three-dimensional (3D) network of 2D ferromagnetic clusters. The successive phase transitions at Tcu and Tcl (<Tcu) have been described by a hierarchical spin ordering from intra- to inter-cluster order. Referring to the nonlinear slow magnetic fluctuation of a 1/ω-like spectrum, a fractal structure of the inter-cluster network and, therefore, a percolation phase transition at Tcl, is suggested from the antisymmetric discontinuous jump of the nonlinear susceptibility χ2 at this temperature. The origin of this percolation is discussed referring to the original intercalation process.
