Los ECAES de economía.
Los exámenes de Estado de Calidad de la Educación Superior, ECAES, fueron establecidos con el objeto de evaluar las competencias de los estudiantes de último año de los programas de pregrado en el país. El primer ECAES de economía se efectuó en noviembre del 2004. Sin embargo, tal como quedó diseñado, el examen evaluó conocimientos en lugar de competencias. No hubo sorpresas en cuanto al ranking de universidades que arrojó el examen. Los resultados muestran una correlación positiva entre los puntajes por programa y el valor de la matrícula, el número de estudiantes evaluados y el hecho de tener jornada diurna, y correlación negativa si la institución es privada. La forma como los medios divulguen los resultados de los ECAES podría llevar en un futuro a las instituciones a reorientar sus currículos y su nómina de profesores hacia los temas básicos de economía con el fin de asegurar una mejor figuración en la prensa. Quizás los ECAES tengan mayor utilidad rediseñándolos para que sirvan como exámenes de admisión en maestrías y doctorados, en cuyo caso serían voluntarios.
