Ratiometric Immunochromatographic Strips for Small Molecule On-Site Detection by Integration of Competitive and Noncompetitive Models
Immunochromatographic strip (ICS) has achieved considerable success in contaminant monitoring. Herein, we report the ratiometric fluorescent and colorimetric ICSs (RFICS and RCICS) for rapid and accurate detection of a small molecule fungicide, namely benzothiostrobin. The RFICS and RCICS work in terms of ratiometric signal, arising from the color blend by integration of competitive and noncompetitive immunoassays with different tracers into an ICS. In conjunction with a portable smartphone, the quantitative detection limit of benzothiostrobin for RFICS and RCICS were 0.17 and 0.44 ng mL-1. In addition, the RFICS generates an enormously intuitional green-yellow-red color change at threshold concentrations of ≤0.5, 1.0-5.0 and ≥10 ng mL-1, while the RCICS produces a visually distinguishable red–purple-blue color change at threshold concentrations of ≤2.5, 5.0-25 and ≥50 ng mL-1, which allow the accurate and reproducible semi-quantitative detection by naked eye. Owing to the unique advantages of ratiometric signal, the RFICS and RCICS show resistance to the interference of external visible light and can satisfy the demand of on-site detection in more different scenes
