Retailing : The Most Happening Sector in India --- Opportunities and Challenges

Retailing in India is not a very new phenomenon. It has been in practice since long. But the emergence of Globalization (1991) has added extra pace and dimension to the retailing sector. This decade has brought a number of changes in a number of ways. The most vitally affected are the social and economic structures. The consumers now have little time to venture out every time for satisfying their needs, wants and expectations. They are constantly looking for one stop shopping experience to make better utility of their time. They are constantly looking for better quality, valued items, smaller queues and customer friendly environment. This paper attempts to find out whether retail marketing is just a myth or is really the demand of the most vibrating economy like India. This paper further attempts to find out the challenges that lie ahead of retailing and the solutions that can be developed to make it a reality
