Stabilität der Korrelationen bedeutender Anlageklassen
Seit Begründung der Modernen Portfoliotheorie ist bekannt, dass die Portfoliovolatilität im Fall niedriger Korrelationen zwischen den Anlageklassen bei sonst gleich bleibenden Parametern ohne Renditeeinbusse reduziert wird. Damit ist die Korrelationsmatrix ein zentrales Element bei der Ermittlung effizienter Portfolios im Sinne der Modernen Portfoliotheorie. In der Praxis des Portfolio Managements wird die Korrelationsmatrix in der Regel aufgrund historischer Renditereihen geschätzt. Kenntnisse über die Stabilität der Korrelationsmatrix im Zeitablauf sind daher zentral. Sollte sich die Korrelationsmatrix im Zeitablauf als nicht stabil erweisen, interessiert grundsätzlich, ob die Korrelationen tendenziell steigen oder sinken. Ein Anstieg der Korrelationen würde zu einer Reduktion des Diversifikationspotentials führen, was den Einfluss des systematischen Risikos ansteigen lassen würde. Verbreitet wird die Hypothese aufgestellt, dass mit der Globalisierung der Finanzmärkte ein Anstieg der Korrelationen zwischen den traditionellen Anlageklassen - Aktien, Obligationen und Geldmarktanlagen - zu beobachten ist. Dies wird oft als Argument für den Einsatz von Non-Traditional Investments verwendet. Im Rahmen der vorliegenden Studie sollen mögliche volkswirtschaftliche, betriebswirtschaftliche sowie finanzmarkttechnische Faktoren diskutiert werden, welche zu einem Anstieg der Korrelationen zwischen den traditionellen Anlageklassen führen könnten. Verschiedene statistische Analysen sollen zeigen, ob ein Anstieg der Korrelationen beobachtbar ist und ob sich die Korrelationen im Zeitablauf stabil verhalten. Abschliessend werden die Implikationen der Analyseresultate für einen in Schweizer Franken denkenden Investor dargelegt.
