Statistics on the Employment Situation of People with Disabilities : A Compendium of National Methodologies Ilo Bureau of Statistics in Collaboration with the in Focus Programme on Skills, Knowledge and Employability

A major problem in stating the employment situation of people with disabilities is the lack of efficient statistical data. A worldwide survey analyzed the different approaches used in data collection, and the results show that countries mainly rely on population censuses and household surveys. Less than 50 per cent of these use the relevant international standards dealing with statistics on disability. Furthermore, the Washington City Group aims to develop a set of general disability measures by using the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health which was issued by the World Health Organization (WHO). Overall, obtaining more effective statistics can improve the analysis of data concerning the employment of people with disabilities, and thus better suit their needs
