The Tea Party and the Anti-Immigration Debate in 2010
Using an original survey collected by the authors, we examine how support for the Tea Party movement is independently related to holding strict anti-immigrant attitudes. Further, using content analysis of Tea Party websites and posts, we report the extent to which Tea Party members posted content related on their websites categorized as anti-immigrant, in comparison to content about the size of government. We argue that supporters of the Tea Party are more than just the conservative wing of the Republican party, and that the election of President Obama created an environment in which their power and status was waning against changing demographics in America
