Inferring statistical complexity in the dripping faucet experiment
Gonçalves, W.M.; Pinto, R.D.; Sartorelli, J.C.; de … - In: Physica A: Statistical Mechanics and its Applications 257 (1998) 1, pp. 385-389
We have used topological ε-machine reconstruction to calculate statistical complexity associated to period five orbits in the dripping faucet experiment. Basic structures related to the periodic movement and to peripheral tracks in the corresponding directed graphs were identified.

Monte Carlo simulation of the quantum transverse Ising model
de Oliveira, M.J.; Chiappin, J.R.N. - In: Physica A: Statistical Mechanics and its Applications 238 (1997) 1, pp. 307-316
We use a Monte Carlo method to calculate the ground-state properties of the one-dimensional quantum transverse Ising model. The magnetization, the susceptibility and the reduced fourth-order cumulant are estimated for several sizes of the chain as functions of the transverse field.

Coupling constants for stochastic spin systems
de Oliveira, M.J. - In: Physica A: Statistical Mechanics and its Applications 203 (1994) 1, pp. 13-23
Time evolution equations for coupling constants are introduced and applied to some one-dimensional stochastic spin models that do not satisfy detailed balance. The stationary solution is obtained numerically by using successive approximations in which coupling constants corresponding to cluster...

Ising spin glass in the Bethe approximation at zero temperature
de Oliveira, M.J. - In: Physica A: Statistical Mechanics and its Applications 148 (1988) 3, pp. 567-574
We study the properties of the Ising spin glass in the Bethe approximation at zero temperature for the case of a ±J distribution of bonds. We show that there is an infinite number of solutions for the probability distribution function of the effective field. Each one is a sum of 2N+1 delta...
