We estimate Okun coefficients for five different age cohorts for several Eurozone countries. We find a stable pattern for all countries: The relationship between business-cycle fluctuations and the unemployment rate is the strongest for the youngest cohort and gets smaller for the elderly cohorts.

This paper examines the degree of persistence of youth unemployment (total, male and female) in twenty-four countries by using two alternative measures: the AR coefficient and the fractional differencing parameter, based on short- and longmemory processes respectively. The evidence suggests that...

This paper assesses the dynamics of treatment effects arising from variation in the duration of training. We use German ….e. days of training, to the individual post-treatment employment probability (the response). The dose-response function is … planned training durations as treatment variables: If only actual durations are observed, treatment effect estimates may be …

While there has been a large empirical literature on productivity spillovers from multinationals this literature treats the channels through which these spillover effects work as a black box. The innovation of this paper is to investigate whether spillovers occur via worker mobility. We use data...

Many commonly used treatment effects estimators rely on the unconfoundedness assumption (“selection on observables") which is fundamentally non-testable. When evaluating the effects of labor market policies, researchers need to observe variables that affect both treatment participation and...

This study analyzes the treatment effects of public training programs for the unemployed in Germany. Based on … propensity score matching methods we extend the picture that has been sketched in previous studies by estimating treatment … - conflicting with the strategy to increasingly provide training to individuals with better employment prospects. …
