This report provides state information on the characteristics of elderly Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) participants and eligibles, as well as participation rates for this group, to help assess efforts to increase their SNAP participation.

Shows that a little more than half of all food stamp participants were children, about nine percent were elderly people, and the remainder were nonelderly adults. Most households lived in poverty, and almost 90 percent contained either a child or an elderly or disabled person.
