A generalized model of the spread of the Hantavirus in mice populations is presented on the basis of recent observational findings concerning the movement characteristics of the mice that carry the infection. The factual information behind the generalization is based on mark-recapture...

An atomic cluster moving along a solid surface can undergo dissipation of its translational energy through a direct mode, involving the coupling of the center-of-mass motion to thermal excitations of the substrate, and an indirect mode, due to damping of the internal motion of the cluster, to...

We construct a dynamical model from experimental data obtained in a semiconductor laser system with optical feedback. We show that the low-frequency fluctuations arise from an inverse saddle node bifurcation and that the laser behaves as any other excitable system.
