Étude des caractéristiques sanitaires et sociales des jeunes du contingent. 1. Le nombre d'exemptés et de sursitaires aux conseils de révision des classes 1955 à 1964
Vimont Claude and Baudot Jacques. ? Sanitary and Social Characteristics of Young Men Called up by the Army. 1 Number of Young Men discharged by the Army and Townhall Medical Board as unfit and of « sursitaires » (1) among Young Men Called up from 1955 to 1964. By law, it is compulsory for every young Frenchman to call at the Army and Townhall Medical Board (Conseil de Revision) who examines whether he is fit or not to join the Army. This exam takes place when Frenchmen are between eighteen and nineteen. This medical examination makes available a most precious source of data, one of its greatest qualities being that it deals with an homogeneous age group. It is why a few sanitary and social characteristics of the population can be ascertained. Messrs. Claude Vimont and Jacques Baudot give here the results of those Army and Townhall Medical examinations for young men supposed to be drafted during the last ten years : from 1955 up to 1964. This paper aims at determining the number of young men discharged as unfit by the Army and Townhall medical Board, the number of « sursitaires » for each year, and, especially, their distribution over French Departments, so as to examine regional differentials.
