A Dashboard Approach to Measurement (Un enfoque de tablero de control para la medicion)

This paper is written in Spanish. It argues that timely, relevant and accurate information is a prerequisite to good decision-making in philanthropy. A measurement system gathers information - both quantitative and qualitative - about all the significant activities of the organization and thereby reduces the amount of uncertainty. Often, there are several ways of measuring the same thing. But invariably, measurement creates a certain discipline that plays an instrumental role in establishing an environment that is conducive to excellence. The paper reviews the benefits of transition from a theory of hope to a theory of change, and introduces the dashboard as a comprehensive methodology that leverages empirical analysis and a clear process that specifies how particular measurements are collected and managed. A sound measurement system enables donors to make informed decisions about financial support, and helps organizations to ensure that the organization stays on track in the fulfillment of its mission
