A factorization analysis of automobile fuel consumption in actual traffic
We present the results of a factorization analysis of automobile fuel consumption in actual traffic. Three specific studies related, respectively, to trip purpose, road type, and time period of trip generation were carried out. In each study, the variations in vehicle fuel consumption were factorized according to trip length, vehicle speed, and vehicle occupancy. We used an automobile fuel consumption model and survey data on automobile usage. The results obtained provide insight into automobile fuel consumption in actual traffic.
