A Meta-Analysis of Renewable Energy Consumption and Economic Growth

This paper explores the relationship between Renewable energy consumption and economic growth. It seeks to profile these studies from 1972 to 2022. The purpose of this study is to document and analyse antecedents on REC and economic growth.It uses meta-analytic and survey techniques to highlight related literature of renewable energy consumption and economic growth nexus. It implores the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses(PRISMA) in screening suitable observations for the study. This will be useful in informing evidence based decision making. It synthesises four hypotheses, feedback, growth, conservation and neutrality. It concerns itself with a single country as well as multi-country studies. The variables selected, methodological techniques, time periods has contributed to the increased level of disharmony and divergence of results.The results indicate a dominating growth hypothesis with 64.9% of all studies. Feedback hypothesis with 15.6%, Conservation with 11.7% and Neutral hypothesis with 7.58%. This paper will be helpful to policy makers in designing evidence based strategies. It will also be useful to researchers in providing fresh evidence of recent studies and enable them truck the level of debate in the renewable energy growth nexus. It will paint a clear picture on how the Renewable energy consumption-economic growth nexus has been studied thus far
