A Qualitative Study on Curators’ Preferences About New Technologies in Museums With Their Operational State of the Art

The development of informatics and new technologies (NT) has created a new technological impetus for museums too. This impetus, if properly acknowledged, will not only contribute to the revenue increase of museums, but also to the increase of their reputation which is a major asset. This study is based on a qualitative survey with personal interviews in which participated curators from different museums across Greece. The study inquires on NT preferences and perceptions as well as technical and operational characteristics of the museums and their stuff, together with demographic data of the curators. The results of the study reveal the asymmetries characterizing the museum and the large scope of central co-ordination from the Ministry of Culture that could give a kick-off aid since major barriers are the lack of funds and the counseling from academicians and other experts
