A Rapid Informatization Strategy for Australia - An Impact Analysis

The rapid informatization or increasing information intensity of Australian macroeconomic activity has become a crucial determinant of Australia's international competitiveness. However, the extant National Income Accounts or Input-Output Statistics fail to identify the Information Economy. In this study we report the identification of both Information and Non-information sectors using a computational algorithm. Leontief's double inversion technique is used to extract the the dynamic nascent information sectors that are buried in run-of-the-mill National Accounts and Input-Output Statitistics. Impact or Multipliers and Linkages have been used to measure the competitiveness of various information and non-information sectors. A composite scoring technique has been used to identify the optimal information sectors. The study also tags the core information technologies and the most attractive projects to promote the rapid informatization of the Australian economy
