A Study on Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in Power Sector in Indian Scenario

The power sector in India has grown significantly and is a very important part of infrastructure. The huge size of the market in the power sector in India and the high returns on the investment are the important factors in boosting FDI Inflows to the power sector. The present study has been conducted by me so as to have an insight with regard to the FDI Inflows in the power sector in Indian Economy.The major objectives focused in the present paper are: 1) Analysis of Sectoral wise distribution of the FDI inflows in the Indian Economy with emphasis on the FDI inflows in power sector in India from 2002 to 2010.2) Analysis of the monthly FDI inflows in Power Sector in Indian Economy (During 2008-09 and 2009-10).3) Analysis of the Country wise and Region wise inflow of FDI in power sector in India from 2000 to 2009.4) Opportunity of Public - Private Investment in Power sector in Indian Economy. One of the challenges highlighted by the paper being faced by power sector in India is the gap existing between what is planned and what is actually achieved with regard to implementation of different power projects as per the Five Year Plan
