A Study on the Determinants of Born-Globalization of Chinese Hi-Tech Ventures
Purpose: As China's technology-intensive enterprises face fierce competition, the strategy of entering overseas markets for sustainable growth is becoming increasingly important. This study addresses this topic as follows. First, we analyze the determinants of born-globalization of Chinese Hi-Tech ventures. Second, considering both internal and external environmental factors sharing the born-globalization of Hi-Tech ventures, several theoretical constructs are considered, and an empirical analysis is conducted to explore which theoretical constructs play a crucial role in the born-globalization of Chinese Hi-Tech ventures. Third, we consider the specific China government policy influencing the process associated with the born-globalization of Chinese Hi-Tech ventures.Design/Methodology/Approach: Binary logistic regression is used to test the hypothesized relationship, by analyzing data on 308 export Hi-Tech manufacturing firms of China.Findings: The results signify that a CEO’s overseas work experience, technology capability, venture capital financing capacity, network capabilities, and government subsidies have a statistically significant effect on the born-globalization of Chinese Hi-Tech ventures. Originality/Value: R&D results are reflected in the form of intellectual property rights, such as patents; and Chinese companies have been striving to imitate advanced technologies. Acquiring overseas patents through more active technology development is needed in the future. This could be a driving force behind the globalization of Chinese Hi-Tech ventures, especially born-globalization. Governments are implementing policies to encourage the globalization of Hi-Tech ventures, and Chinese Hi-tech ventures may be able to engage with globalization more easily if they maximize their use of these central and local government support systems
