A Study on the Performance of Urban Cooperative Banks in Tamil Nadu

The present study is an attempt to evaluate the financial performance of Urban Cooperative Banks (UCBs) in India with special reference to Tamil Nadu. Average per bank has been calculated and used to evaluate the financial position of UCBs. This study revealed that the Tamil Nadu have not succeeded in achieving the all-India average in all parameters selected for the study. It may understand that Tamil Nadu has the fourth highest concentration of UCBs while in terms of number the state accounts for 6.4 percent of UCBs in the country. The study suggests that this strength of the UCBs in Tamil Nadu should be duly capitalized on and supplemented by a carefully chalked out reform agenda encapsulating all facts of the cooperative domain
