Aeon's promotion of women improves performance
Purpose – The purpose of this article is to illustrate how the promotion of female employees can improve both opportunities for women and organizational performance in the Japanese workplace. Design/methodology/approach – This review is prepared by an independent writer who adds his own comments and places the article in context. Findings – Contends that the effect of promoting women, on Japanese organizational performance, depends on having a promotion‐management system that takes advantage of favorable features that already exist, along with those that are evolving, and takes action to modify organizational features that do not support the desired change. Practical implications – Argues that large‐scale Japanese companies should pay attention to the management style of those that have improved organizational performance by promoting women, and keep their eyes on rare best practices. Originality/value – The briefing saves busy executives reading time by selecting the most pertinent information and presenting it in a condensed and easy‐to‐digest format.
