Constraints and opportunities are presented relative to improving the quality of higher education in agriculture globally. Challenges discussed are the lack of global cooperation \| the limited frame of reference associated with educational nationalism \| underutilized sources of knowledge \| the need for globalization of educational content \| gender imbalances among students and faculty members \| narrow disciplinary approaches used in organizing learning \| and the narrow definition of scholarship and its impact on recognition systems at institutions engaged in higher education in agriculture.
