An Approach for Enhancing Digitalisation in High-Tech Manufacturing Supply Chains Through Addressing Blockchain Scalability

In various industries, blockchain technology is having a significant impact. High-tech industrial supply chains are going through a digital transformation that can be aided by blockchain technology. When sophisticated and time-consuming testing and certification processes are required in high-tech manufacturing, blockchain technology can help manufacturing supply chains. However, scalability, which is frequently associated with nodes maintaining the same ledger together and complete nodes maintaining a full copy of the blockchain, may be a barrier to blockchain adoption. Sharding is a strategy for dealing with scalability problems. The use of sharding applications, on the other hand, is primarily limited to cryptocurrencies and financial applications, with only a few examples of supply chains and manufacturing. The viability of employing blockchain sharding in high-tech production is studied based on the characteristics of the composite materials supply chain that produce components used in the aerospace sector. Because parts and components used in aerospace applications must be tested and certified for flammability, crashworthiness, and operational capabilities, among other things, the use of sharding in blockchains may allow testing and certification processes to be streamlined, reducing lead times and product development cycles
