An Economics Podlibrary : Student Produced Podcasts to Enhance Concept Learning and Application

This paper describes an assignment where students create original podcasts applying economic concepts to real life. This project provides an opportunity for students to demonstrate their understanding and ability to apply important economic concepts while practicing their communication skills. In each 3-5 minute original podcast, students provide a definition of the economic concept as well as one or more specific applications of that concept to real life. The framework for each student's individual podcast is that it contributes to a class ‘library' of concept definitions and applications. The assignment structure is adaptable to a variety of course topics and levels. The description includes instructions, rubrics and recommendations for instructors to incorporate this assignment into their course, as well as results of a student self-assessment survey on their experience of the assignment
