An Exploratory Study on Business Opportunity in Flavoured Maize Flakes

Agriculture is the mainstay of Indian economy because of its handsome share in employment and livelihood creation. Farming is considered as a full time occupation in Indian villages. Agro based and food processing industries are providing entrepreneurial opportunity to budding and enthusiastic entrepreneurs. Food processing industries adds value to the coarse agro produce and converts the produce in either of the ready to use, or ready to cook or ready to eat, state of products. A maize flake is a value added product. Flavoured maize flakes are different from conventional maize flakes. Present study tries to explore the existing type and taste of maize flakes available in the market. Study further explores the potential of acceptability of launch of different flavours of maize flakes, amongst customers and retailers. Preferences of customers are studied to know if maize flakes are favoured in breakfast or snacks. Retailer's opinion is also studied to understand customer's preference involved in buying maize flakes and their personal opinion to stock the different flavours of maize flakes. Confectionaries opinion is studied towards flavoured maize flakes. Setting up such food processing units will provide entrepreneurial opportunity to target, untapped market of flavoured maize flakes
