An Innovative Criterion in Evaluating Bitcoin's Environmental Impact

In today's world, cryptocurrencies, especially Bitcoin, have been caught under fire for their immense carbon footprint and environmental destruction. With Bitcoin currently consuming more electricity than countries such as Argentina and Norway, the need for environmental change is necessary. With Bitcoin's environmental destruction and generous energy consumption, it is necessary to evaluate these types of cryptocurrencies in proper and efficient ways, to truly understand their environmental damage. This work examines Bitcoin's environmental impact and how to properly evaluate its environmental damage. Taking into consideration carbon emissions, proper labeling of Bitcoin, electricity consumption, e-waste, and more, a comprehensive criterion is developed to properly evaluate Bitcoin. This work can provide the public and policymakers a better understanding of how to test not just Bitcoin, but other cryptocurrency's environmental damage and push for environmental changes/legislation
