Application of TPB in Financial Inclusion : A Moderated Moderation Analysis of Subjective Norm and Attitude Towards Place
Purpose – The research intends to examine the role of theory of planned behaviour (TPB) in financial inclusion (FI) along with the moderating effects of both attitude towards place and subjective norm on desire and intention.Design/Methodology/Approach – This study adopts the CFA / SEM to confirm factors and model respectively. Further, it applies moderation analysis to confirm the two- and three-way interaction of attitude towards place and subjective norm on relationship of desire and intention.Findings – Relying on the data collected (N = 326) from the tribal districts in India, model based on the three way interaction (moderated moderation) concludes (1) intention involved in FI is completely explained by TPB and, (2) attitude towards place and subjective norm moderates the direct relationship of desire and intention in two- and three-way interaction. Practical implications – Implementing authorities (like banks) and policy makers can design suitable interventions based on the derived model(s) so to engage beneficiaries in voluntary approach to FI.Originality/value – Earlier research on the role of TPB were carried out to assess the existing financial behaviors, the contribution of study is first as the theory is explored in finding the theoretical constructs that initiates the intention towards financial behavior in those who are financial excluded residing in rural parts of India
