Are contracts strange animals in international fresh fruit trade?
There is not a clear divide in literature between formal and informal contracts. The classical approach which is based on criteria like court enforcement or written content does not suffice for describing the international contracts under scrutiny in our case study of the Chilean fruit trade. Using Lyons´ (1994) approach and primary and secondary data, this article analyses the factors influencing the choice of signing. Our non parametric results show that distrust and changes in food chains have respectively a negative and positive significant impact on this choice.
