Are the New AIs Smart Enough to Steal Your Job? IQ Scores for ChatGPT, Microsoft Bing, Google Bard and Quora Poe

Recent advancements in natural language AI, such as ChatGPT, have shown remarkable performance in sophisticated tasks, indicating potential widespread implications for the labor market. This study examined the performance of ChatGPT and other AI models on the PAIMT, an intelligence test applied in Pernambuco, Brazil. Results showed that most chatbots scored above the 95th percentile, surpassing the average IQ scores of individuals with advanced degrees or even university professors. The best-performing AIs, ChatGPT and Microsoft Bing, achieved scores at the 99th percentile. In Pernambuco, high IQs correlate with higher income and lower unemployment levels, suggesting AI’s potential impact on the labor market. This investigation supports previous findings that natural language AIs, like ChatGPT, possess intellectual abilities that meet or exceed those of highly skilled humans, implying the possibility of AI replacing high-level job positions. Future research should focus on assessing AI cognitive performance with a broader range of instruments and continuously monitoring the rapidly evolving technology and its societal impacts
