Banking Industry During the Economic Crisis: The Survival of Non-Japanese Foreign Banks in Indonesia

This study analyses the impact of the crisis on the financial sector. Special attention is given to the performance of non-Japanese foreign and joint venture banks during the crisis. We also analyse whether government policy and formation of networks - ownership networks and the link with the real sector - affect the survival of a bank. We achieve this through surveying the literature on Indonesia's financial markets (especially the changing of policy directions and their impacts on financial markets), utilising secondary data on financial markets, and conducting interviews with non-Japanese foreign banks.
