Beef Meat Sector Competitiveness Against Global Markets

Global meat exports have shown an increase of 40% over the last decade (USDA, 2013); placing production at 303.9 million tons in 2012 and where pork protein participates with 37%, poultry by 34.4% and bovine with a figure close to 22% (Echavarri, 2012).The price is a key factor that has influenced the demand for pork and poultry against beef; which is partly explained by higher technical efficiencies, production, marketing costosy structure which led to this behavior (FAO, 2012). In this respect the internationally cattle has important challenges in order to increase consumption to rising incomes in developing countries, which favor intensive production practices.
