Big Data in Wirtschaft und Wissenschaft: Eine Bestandsaufnahme
Die immer größere Anzahl und Vielfalt der im Zuge der fortschreitenden Digitalisierung entstehenden Daten ist eng mit dem Begriff "Big Data" verbunden. Damit nimmt aus ökonomischer Perspektive neben der Bedeutung von Daten auch die Relevanz von Big Data zu. Die vorliegende IW-Analyse erfasst die Effekte von Big Data über die zwei Wirkkanäle Wirtschaft und Wissenschaft. In der Wissenschaft steigt die Bedeutung von Big Data und verwandten Themenfeldern stetig: Seit 2015 hat sich dazu der Anteil an allen Publikationen nahezu verdoppelt. Wissenschaftliche Erkenntnisse münden häufig in Innovationen und haben so einen indirekten ökonomischen Effekt. Der direkte ökonomische Effekt, der sich unter anderem darin äußert, inwiefern Unternehmen Big-Data- Technologien einsetzen, nimmt ebenfalls zu, ist aber insgesamt noch gering. Lediglich gut 8 Prozent der 1.235 deutschen Unternehmen aus Branchen der Industrie und der industrienahen Dienstleistungen, die exklusiv für diese Untersuchung befragt wurden, führen Big-Data-Analysen durch. Die Umfrage ergab auch, dass sich viele Unternehmen derzeit noch zahlreichen Herausforderungen gegenübersehen, die die Nutzung von Big Data behindern. Zu diesen gehören vor allem das fehlende Know-how im Unternehmen, die mangelnde Qualität und Quantität der Daten sowie zu geringe Budgets. Beim fehlenden Know-how ist eine Kooperation mit Start-ups zu empfehlen. Die Bedeutung der Datenbewirtschaftung sollte in Unternehmen generell bewusster sein, um der mangelnden Qualität und Quantität von Daten in Unternehmen entgegenzuwirken. Hierdurch ist auch zu erwarten, dass das Bewusstsein für das tatsächliche Kosten-Nutzen-Verhältnis des Einsatzes von Big-Data-Technologien geschärft wird und folgerichtig mehr in Big Data investiert wird.
