Biotechnology and Government Funding
Why is the United States the leader in biotechnology? The author argues it is because it has adopted a public-goods model actively involving government spending and decision-making. The private market alone will not support adequate basic research. But does the government support its research well? The author argues that it is not perfect, but it has been highly successful.
