Headley.The second group of studies includes an investigation into the economic factors that bring about success or failure upon reclamation projects in western and central Nevada. Each type of farm enterprise suitable to the region will be studied in detail. Cost and profits of production of farm products will be determined in cooperation with groups of farmers.AN INCREASE IN THE FEDERAL ENDOWMENT OF THE STATION The Purnell Act which became a federal law on February 24, 1925, made the following increases in the endowment of the Station: $20,000 for the fiscal year ending June 30, 1926, and for each year thereafter, with an additional $10,000 for each succeeding year until 1930, when the fund will have reached a fixed annual amount of $60,000.Up to 1925 the Station was supported almost wholly by two funds giving the following annual income:Hatch Fund (March 2, 1887) $15,000Adams Fund (March 16, 1906) 15,000The federal laws do not require that any portion of these funds shall be matched by State appropriations and very little assistance has been asked by the Station from the State Legislature. The only direct financial assistance received by the Station from the State has been approximately $2,500 each year, largely for the purpose of defraying the expense of preliminary investigations of problems before they ar submitted as projects for approval in the Office of Experiment Station of the United States Department of Agriculture.STUDIES OF SMALL FARM DEVELOPMENT UNDER THEPURNELL ACT ,Under the new fund the outstanding development of the Statio work has been the outlining of groups of studies which promise toJ
