Bringen klimabedingte Naturkatastrophen die Menschen dazu, grün zu wählen? : Evidenz aus einem natürlichen Experiment in Deutschland

Mittels einer groß angelegten Umfrage in Deutschland untersuchen wir, wie die Erfahrung einer Naturkatastrophe die Wahlentscheidungen von Bürger*innen beeinflusst. Die Hochwasserkatastrophe vom Juli 2021 in den westdeutschen Regionen liegt zwischen zwei Wellen unserer Umfrage. Da uns die Antworten aller Befragten in den Überschwemmungsgebieten und außerhalb vorliegen, können wir einen kausalen Zusammenhang zwischen der Nähe zur Überschwemmung und dem Wahlverhalten herstellen. Unsere Ergebnisse zeigen, dass die Befragten, die in den vom Hochwasser betroffenen Gebieten leben und bei der letzten Wahl nicht für die Grünen gestimmt hatten, bei der nächsten Wahl aufgrund der Fluterfahrung mit einer um rund 4 Prozentpunkte höheren Wahrscheinlichkeit die Grünen wählen. Die Tendenz, für die Grünen zu stimmen, wird dabei zu einem großen Teil von denjenigen Befragten bestimmt, die die betroffenen Regionen verlassen haben oder in die Region gezogen sind.
