Business Performance Management Platforms Overview Part 5 : The Microsoft BI Platform

Microsoft acquired DATAllegro in July 2008 and is preparing the new release of its BI platform for 2010. Projects "Gemini" and "Madison" are extensions to Microsoft's business intelligence strategy: a new version of Analysis Services and data warehousing functionality from DATAllegro, respectively. The next version of SQL Server is code-named "Kilimanjaro": - will provide the foundation for Microsoft's first data warehouse appliance, code-named Madison (Madison is developed with DATAAllegro technolgy; - will contain a BI tool called Gemini that's being designed to bring a broader range of employees into the BI field. "What we are announcing this week is a release of SQL Server code-named 'Kilimanjaro' focused on BI and delivering new capabilities in the area of self-self service analysis and self-service reporting.
