Cameroun: Comprendre le travail des enfants et l’emploi des jeunes - Rapport sur le travail des enfants et l’emploi des jeunes
Surmonter le double défi du travail des enfants et de l’emploi des jeunes au Cameroun déterminera les progrès du pays vis-à-vis des Objectifs du Millénaire pour le Développement. Les estimations présentées dans ce rapport indiquent qu’environ 1,7 millions d’enfants camerounais âgés de 6 à 14 ans, soit 40% de ce groupe d’âge, sont encore économiquement actifs. Parallèlement, près de la moitié des jeunes camerounais actifs sont sous-employés, et plus de neuf sur dix d’entre eux travaillent dans les conditions précaires du secteur informel. Les conséquences du travail des enfants et des difficultés de l’emploi des jeunes sont bien renseignées : ces deux formes de travail peuvent conduire à la vulnérabilité et à la marginalisation sociale et peuvent nuire de manière permanente aux potentiels productifs d’un individu et par ce biais influencer ses schémas d’emplois et de rémunérations sur l’ensemble de sa vie. Le présent rapport examine les questions relatives au travail des enfants et à l’emploi des jeunes au Cameroun. Basée sur l’observation des résultats en termes d’éducation, d’activités économiques et de statuts sur le marché du travail, cette étude prend en considération aussi bien les déterminants économiques que sociaux du travail des enfants et de l’emploi des jeunes. Cette étude a été conjointement développée par le Gouvernement du Cameroun et les trois agences partenaires du programme « Comprendre le Travail des enfants » (UCW). Ce rapport offre ainsi une importante base commune d’actions à entreprendre afin de résoudre les problèmes de travail des enfants et d’emploi des jeunes au Cameroun.
