Can India Replicate US Shale Gas Success?

Natural gas is in reach of methane content which can be easily used in domestic use and it is cleaner, cheaper and widely explored globally. With highest production as 25.7 tcf annually, US made huge success in development and production of shale gas. Horizontal drilling and Hydraulic fracking made US pioneer in shale growth where FY15 production is 5 tcf approx. Globally India and China were capable of good prospects for shale gas development. With US’s efforts for sharing technology with other countries, India took significant step towards the E&P of shale gas giving incentives to PSU companies. However, India can replicate US success is still a dream and required almost twenty years to achieve production targets same as US. Permission-authorization delays, lacking in water management, environmental hazards, pricing mechanism and earthquake possibilities are the factors that can plunge the efforts of shale extraction in India. Since it is still cheaper source to reduced demand supply gap rather than high cost pipeline and LNG imports. Government probably make best efforts to achieve shale gas success
