Characteristics of SCHIP Eligibility and Enrollment Data Systems: Feasibility for Supporting Research on SCHIP

Presents information, collected by telephone between December 2000 and July 2001, on SCHIP and Medicaid eligibility and enrollment data systems in 23 states. State profiles provide useful background information for researchers who would like to use the data to study the SCHIP and Medicaid programs. The information can help determine the ability of state data systems to support primary data collection efforts, such as surveys of new enrollees, established enrollees, and disenrollees. It can also be used to assess the ability of state administrative data to support analyses of SCHIP and Medicaid enrollment patterns, retention and disenrollment rates, impact of cost-sharing on continuity of enrollment, and reasons for denials and disenrollment.
